Moray MP Douglas Ross has slammed the SNP’s continued “painfully slow” rollout of super-fast broadband in his constituency.
A Freedom of Information Request from the Scottish Conservatives shows that zero properties in Moray have been connected as part of the SNP’s north contract, while only 229 have been connected as part of the Scottish Broadband voucher scheme.
The FOI response shows that only 6,897 properties in the north of Scotland have been connected as part of the contract out of 60,764 waiting to be connected. That means over 53,000 properties have still not been connected.
Douglas says the SNP’s “widespread” failures on broadband connectivity continue to let down residents and businesses in Moray who are desperate to receive better connectivity.
He says that poor connectivity harms the local economy and the policy failure is yet another example of the SNP-Green government “badly” letting down rural and remote areas, which they have continually let down over their 16 years in power.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “The SNP’s rollout of superfast broadband continues to be painfully slow in Moray. It is completely unacceptable that zero properties have been connected as part of the contract and so few have benefitted from the SNP’s broadband voucher scheme.
“The SNP’s record on boosting broadband connectivity in Moray is one of widespread failure.
"Having access to superfast broadband is vital for people and businesses across Moray, but too many are continuing to miss out.
“That has a huge knock-on effect for our local economy and puts people off making Moray their choice of area to live and work.
“These repeated broken promises on broadband rollout from the SNP-Green government are yet another example of them letting down rural communities like Moray, as they have done throughout their 16 years in office.”
