Moray MP Douglas Ross says he is pleased that the UK Government will ensure park home residents in Moray will receive support to help pay their energy bills in the same way the wider population will.
The UK Government recently confirmed that park home residents such as those in Elgin and Forres will receive the grant after initially not being eligible through the wider Energy Bills Support Scheme. They will now receive the £400 grants, with further details to be announced in the autumn.
Douglas welcomed the news and has written to the UK Government’s Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to ensure that the department works with all those park home residents to ensure nobody misses out.
He backed the campaign for this change after being contacted by Bill Gray, the Secretary of Scottish Confederation of Park Homes Residents Association. Mr Gray lives in Moray and Douglas is delighted that the campaign has secured a positive outcome for Bill and others in Moray and across Scotland.
He added that this is a hugely challenging time for many individuals and families with continuing energy price increases and it is crucial everyone knows what support is available to them.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “I was very pleased to see the UK Government confirm that park home residents will be eligible for the £400 grants to ensure they will get money off their energy bills.
“The global cost-of-living crisis is affecting everyone and it was crucial that park home residents like the ones right here in Moray didn’t miss out on this support.
“I have written to the UK Government Business and Energy Secretary to ensure that his department guarantee that nobody misses out like those residents of park homes in Elgin and Forres.
“This has been an excellent campaign by the Park Homes Association and I was delighted to back it as soon as Bill Gray got in touch with me.
“The UK Government are providing support to help people through the cost-of-living crisis and I look forward to seeing more details of how this support will be delivered to park home residents in the autumn.
“I will continue to work to ensure everyone knows what support is available to them to cope with rising energy costs and other increased bills and local residents shouldn't hesitate to contact me or my office if they require any assistance.”
