Moray MP Douglas Ross has slammed Nicola Sturgeon’s plans for another independence referendum saying the area’s priorities will be put on the back burner as a result.
Douglas hit out after the SNP leader confirmed she wants to hold a potentially illegal second referendum on 19th October 2023.
He said that her focus on another referendum will come at the expense of the real priorities facing the people of Moray including the cost-of-living services, the ongoing lack of maternity services at Dr Gray’s, the post-pandemic recovery for local businesses and communities and vital improvements to rural infrastructure.
Douglas has accused Nicola Sturgeon of turning Holyrood into a “Do-nothing Parliament” which is being railroaded into constantly discussing the SNP’s independence obsession.
He also confirmed that he and the Scottish Conservatives wouldn’t be taking part in a “pretend poll when there’s real work to be done.”
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “Nicola Sturgeon’s eye is off the ball again and the real priorities of the people of Moray are going to be put on the back burner as a result of her independence obsession.
“Her and her party’s selfish obsession with another divisive referendum will always be their top priority.
“The priorities of the people of Moray are being neglected yet again. Nicola Sturgeon is turning Holyrood into a Do-Nothing Parliament that doesn’t do anything to support the people of Moray.
“A do-nothing Parliament that isn’t helping families with the cost-of-living crisis. A do-nothing Parliament that has neglected the lack of maternity services at Dr Gray’s. A do-nothing Parliament that isn’t focused on Moray’s post-pandemic recovery.
“That is why I won’t be taking part in Nicola Sturgeon’s pretend poll when there’s real work to be done for the people of Moray.
“Time is made to push forward a potential illegal referendum, but time isn’t made to tackle the real priorities of the people of Moray and the issues they want the Scottish Parliament to be focused on day in day out.
“They shouldn’t be on the backburner just because Nicola Sturgeon wants to talk about another divisive referendum instead of facing scrutiny on the SNP Government’s appalling record.”
