Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed news that staff at partnership nurseries will be given lateral flow Covid tests twice a week.
It has been confirmed by the Moray Council that testing will begin from the first week of March. The tests can confirm asymptomatic cases of Covid.
The local MP was contacted by many of the local private nurseries who felt that they were not being treated in the same way as council-run facilities.
Staff in council-run nurseries were able to access lateral flow Covid tests twice a week, but partnership nurseries were not included in the first stage of the testing roll-out.
Scottish Conservative MP for Moray Douglas Ross said:
“I am pleased to hear that following representations I made to Moray Council, lateral flow testing will be made available to staff in partnership nurseries as well as those that are council-run.
“This is very important in terms of preventing the spread of the virus but also for the confidence of staff and local families.
“I was contacted by several partnership nurseries with concerns that their staff, children and families were being put at risk and I think it’s wrong that they were not included from the beginning of the reopening, but at least they will now have the same testing as everyone else.
“This news will be welcomed and I hope will put minds at ease.”
