Local MP Douglas Ross and members of the local community, including representatives of Forres in Bloom and Forres Community Council, attended the removal of the model Nimrod this morning from its site by the War Veterans’ Cottages in Forres.
The Nimrod, which commemorates service personnel who served in the iconic aircraft at RAF Kinloss, was moved by RAF personnel for restoration.
Douglas said: “The Nimrod was first placed in Grant Park and later moved to the flower bed at the War Veteran’s Cottages with the area being looked after by the volunteers of Forres in Bloom. The Nimrod provides a very suitable centre-piece which reminds us of the service of the many generations who served on them while based at RAF Kinloss. The model Nimrod has been showing some signs of weather damage and it’s good that the RAF have agreed to restore it to its former glory. This is an important local landmark and memorial and I look forward to seeing it when it returns, fully refurbished, to its rightful place.”
