Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed the UK Government’s announcement of a £1.57 billion investment to protect Britain’s cultural, arts and heritage institutions, with £97 million of that coming to Scotland.
Douglas said: “I have been contacted by many residents here in Moray who were concerned about the future for theatres, museums, music venues and cultural sites and I am delighted that the UK Government has provided this huge investment to help our local and national cultural sector to survive.
“The funding package, which represents the biggest one-off investment in UK culture, means £97 million will come from the UK Government to be allocated by the Scottish Government and I hope that they act quickly to ensure that this extra money gets to those in Moray and across Scotland who have suffered terribly from the coronavirus restrictions.
“The money will ensure that our talented and creative arts organisations will be able to bounce back once restrictions are lifted to allow us to enjoy once again a trip to the theatre, a concert or one of Scotland’s many heritage sites. It will safeguard the sector for future generations, ensuring that arts groups and venues can survive.
“I am grateful to the UK Government for this package, which is part of an unprecedented package of supporting protecting jobs, businesses and communities.”
