Moray MP Douglas Ross has “strongly welcomed” cost-of-living support being delivered by the UK Government which will benefit thousands of people and families in Moray.
Douglas has highlighted the payments being made by the UK Government following Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s support package being announced last month.
In total almost 700,000 households across Scotland will receive payments, as part of the UK Government’s £37 billion package to ease the cost-of-living pressure.
The first payments will land in bank accounts from 14 July, totalling £326, with a second instalment of £324 reaching low-income households in Moray in September, delivering £650 worth of support from the UK Government to those most in need.
Those eligible will also receive a £150 disability top-up payment in September.
In Moray, 9,000 families are eligible for the cost-of-living payment, with a further 8,200 individuals eligible for the disability support payment.
Douglas says this is a significant intervention by the UK Government to support those who need it most during the ever-increasing cost-of-living crisis.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “This is a significant and welcome intervention from the UK Government to support those who are struggling with increasing bills and the current global cost-of-living crisis.
“The Chancellor has recognised that people are dealing with rising bills like never before. This support has been targeted in the right way to those who need it most in Moray.
“Thousands of families and individuals will benefit in Moray in the coming months in order to ease some of the pressure on their outgoings like energy, fuel and food.
“The UK Government are supporting almost 700,000 households across Scotland with these payments and that is before everyone will benefit from grants to get money off energy bills as well.
“Alongside my constituency office team, I am here to support anyone who needs help during this cost-of-living crisis and to ensure that those eligible will receive these payments in their bank accounts. If anyone needs further assistance, please contact my Parliamentary office in Forres at any point.”
