Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed news that Stagecoach is introducing free bus travel for families in Lossiemouth who are finding it hard to make ends meet and need to access supermarkets in Elgin.
He was commenting after the bus operator responded to requests from The Lossie 2-3 Group and Moray Food Plus to help families in need. Children who receive free school meals have instead been issued with a supermarket voucher, but some families cannot afford to get to Elgin from Lossiemouth to redeem their vouchers, but Stagecoach has stepped in to provide free day tickets for these families to use during the pandemic.
Douglas said: “This is a great example of the community working together, responding to a positive suggestion from the Lossie 2-3 Group.
“It’s really heartening that Stagecoach have agreed to help in this manner and I’m grateful to them for recognising the need to support these families.
“The 33 service connects Lossie and Elgin and I understand families in receipt of the meal vouchers can get their bus tickets for this route from the 2-3 Group.”
