Moray MP Douglas Ross says the launch in Moray of Sonas, a new collaborative partnership to help young people to cope with the mental health challenges they face is a huge step forward.
Speaking after the online launch of Sonas (on Friday 28th January) Douglas said: “This initiative, involving Action for Children, Moray Council and many of the groups working with young people fills a gap that has been identified for several years and will complete the services available in Moray. It will adopt an early intervention and prevention approach to help young people with their mental health and wellbeing.
“After the challenges of lockdown and then the eventual return to schools, young people have suffered stress and anxiety on a level we haven’t seen before. The Sonas initiative is already working with schools across Moray to empower young people and is helping them to grow and develop resilience and find skills for coping that will help them lead happier, more fulfilled lives.
“The great thing about Sonas is that it brings together people with so much experience and enthusiasm. We are really fortunate in Moray that this integrated initiative will be there to help our young people and their families by listening to them, finding out what they want, and then helping them achieve the best outcome.
“The aim for Sonas is to provide young people with a happy and safe childhood and to ensure that every young person is allowed to shine and reach their potential. It was good to join the virtual launch and I look forward to seeing the project develop in the months and years ahead.”
