Moray MP Douglas Ross has “warmly welcomed” measures that will see improvements in defence accommodation that have been outlined by the UK Government.
The UK Government’s new strategy will see needs prioritised over military ranks which Douglas says will be a “significant boost” to those at RAF Lossiemouth and Kinloss Barracks.
Included in the new measures are plans to introduce a minimum standard for Single Living Accommodation to raise the quality of accommodation across the defence estate, including at Lossiemouth and Kinloss.
The UK Government have also committed to recognising long-term relationships on the same level as marriage or civil partnerships, meaning personnel in long-term relationships can apply for accommodation in the same way now.
Douglas says that UK Defence ministers have recognised the changing way in which military personnel and their families operate and this accommodation is “extremely well suited” to the modern world.
He added that he was confident it will be “fully utilised” by personnel and their families across Moray.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “This new strategy from UK Defence ministers is extremely welcome.
“Having quality accommodation is of the utmost importance for our military personnel and their families across Moray.
“Ensuring that this will now be based on needs rather than military rank is a significant step in the right direction, as is the commitment to a minimum standard for Single Living Accommodation.
“The UK Government’s new strategy recognises how the ways in which our military operate are ever-changing and this makes their strategy much more suitable for the modern world.
“That is confirmed by allowing those in long-term relationships to apply for accommodation in the same way married couples and those in civil partnerships already can.
“We have already seen improvements to accommodation for military personal in Moray in recent years and I am confident that this sensible and bold new plan by the UK Government will be fully utilised by personnel and their families at Lossiemouth and Kinloss as it is developed.”
