Having campaigned along with constituents for several weeks, to persuade the Moray Council to reinstate the priority one gritting policy on the Dallas – Knockando Road, Moray MP and road safety campaigner, Douglas Ross, has welcomed a U turn by the Council on this decision, saying “it is a victory for common sense”.
Douglas went on to say “The users of this route should not have had to contact their local MP, set up a petition securing hundreds of signatures and write to the Council demanding this change, as it was obvious to most people that the route being one of the highest in Moray was going to be adversely affected by wintry conditions and in need of early gritting.
“I wrote to the Council on this issue in the strongest possible terms and met with community representatives to hear their views first hand. Having been initially advised by Moray Council that they were not going to change their decision, I welcomed a later plan by the SNP Administration to reinstate this route’s priority one gritting status which has now been agreed by councillors.
“I’m delighted that I was able to support and work alongside local campaigners on this issue as road safety of all road users is of the utmost importance.”
