Moray Conservative MP Douglas Ross has welcomed news that repairs to the popular Portknockie to Cullen coastal path are to start next month and be finished by Christmas.
Douglas said: “Moray Council have confirmed that Sustrans, the organisation who aim to ensure that people in Scotland have access to a network of safe walking and cycling routes, have awarded a contract to have repairs carried out on the Portknockie to Cullen path and that work will begin at the site at the beginning of October.
“This extremely popular footpath, used by local people and tourists, was damaged by a landslip back in September 2017. Although some temporary work was done to allow the path to be used, full repairs were needed. Unfortunately, Covid restrictions put this on hold, so I am delighted that the path will be fully restored by Christmas.
“This issue has been raised with me by local constituents again so I’m grateful to Moray Council for keeping me updated with the progress towards restoring this scenic coastal path, loved by so many people, and I hope that the planned timetable can be met. “
Donald Gatt, Conservative Councillor for the Keith/Cullen ward, added: “Moray Council have been in close discussion with Sustrans throughout this process and I am pleased that final repairs to the path near Portknockie, where the landslip occurred, will start next month.
“It has been a long time coming, but it’s encouraging that repairs to ensure that the path is safe for everyone will now go ahead.”
