Moray MP Douglas Ross has formally submitted a letter of objection to planned constituency boundary changes for the area.
Douglas, who has consistently voiced his strong opposition to the plans from the Boundary Commission for Scotland has recorded his dissent ahead of the latest consultation period closing on Monday 5 December.
Despite announcing his plans to stand down as an MP ahead of the next General Election, Douglas says that the latest proposals will have wide-reaching consequences for Moray’s identity and should not go ahead.
Douglas says that while some changes have been made by the Boundary Commission from their initial proposals, splitting the Moray Constituency into two areas, rather than three, the changes still do not go far enough.
He believes that the interests of Moray’s constituents are best served by being represented by a single MP as he does currently.
Douglas is continuing to urge the Boundary Commission to adopt further changes before publishing their revised proposals and for local people to make their views known if they haven’t done so already.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “While some changes have been made to the initial proposals that would see the current Moray constituency carved-up, they simply do not go far enough.
“I have consistently voiced my opposition to the proposals and my stance has not changed, which is why I have now submitted my formal letter of objection as I did during the last round of proposals.
“It has been the honour of my life to represent my home area as MP for Moray. I believe constituents in Moray are best served and will continued to be best served by a single MP representing them in an area that mirrors the local council boundary.
“The current plans would carve-up the constituency into two different authorities and would take away a lot of Moray’s identity.
“I hope the Boundary Commission recognise my continued concerns and take them into account before publishing their final proposals for new constituencies and I would urge anyone in Moray to make their views known if they have not done so already.”
