Moray MP Douglas Ross has written to Moray Council seeking clarity on the time line for the introduction of the traffic lights at the Thornhill Road/St Catherine’s Road/Orchard Road junction in Forres.
Douglas said “This junction was supposed to have had traffic lights installed at various points over the last five years and each time Moray Council has pushed back their plans, delaying the installation. This can be a dangerous crossing for school children, particularly since the Council removed the School Crossing Patroller who did an excellent job, helping children to cross safely.
“We had been told that the lights would be in place within this financial year, but with that being only eight weeks away I have my doubts ,so I’ve written to Moray Council asking what the latest implementation date is and if it will be in this financial year as planned.”
Local Conservative Councillor Claire Feaver said “This set of traffic lights has been on our agenda for some years now. The latest update was that the junction would be controlled by traffic lights, including a pedestrian crossing. Ultimately the Council should never have scrapped the School Crossing Patrollers at these notorious junctions and crossings to school, but since they have, they should take immediate action to ensure the safety of our children and made the installation of traffic lights a priority.
