Moray MP Douglas Ross says he will continue to push the SNP-Green Government to fully dual the A96.
His call comes after he wrote to SNP Transport Minister Jenny Gilruth following his summer surgery tour in which the lack of upgrades on the road were regularly raised by constituents.
Douglas has consistently challenged the SNP-Green Government to ensure that the route is fully dualled, saying that SNP ministers have been rowing back on their commitment, since bringing Green ministers into government.
Jenny Gilruth has confirmed in the letter to Douglas that a review which was in the SNP-Green agreement last year will report by the end of the year.
Douglas has urged her and her colleagues to listen to the views of people and businesses in Moray who are “beyond desperate” to see the A96 dualled.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “The A96 is a crucial route for our communities across Moray and it is in desperate need of being fully dualled.
“Since bringing the Greens into Government, SNP ministers have been rowing back on their previous commitments and kicking decisions into the long grass.
“That is a major source of frustration for people across Moray who made their feelings clear throughout my recent summer surgery tour.
“There are people who are affected by the lack of investment and upgrades on the A96 every single day as they go to work, meetings, or have to use it to travel to give birth in Aberdeen due to the lack of maternity services at Dr Gray’s.
“Their concerns cannot be ignored any longer by SNP-Green ministers. This review which is still potentially months away from reporting back must reaffirm the SNP’s previous commitment to fully dualling the A96, otherwise it will be another insult to our communities here in Moray and those along the whole route from Inverness to Aberdeen.”
