Moray MP Douglas Ross has highlighted an inquiry being undertaken by the Scottish Affairs Committee, which will underline the importance of RAF Lossiemouth.
Douglas, who is a member of the committee, is playing his part in examining the role of how the UK defends the North Atlantic and Arctic.
The work done at RAF Lossiemouth to protect this region will be part of the focus as committee members look at how underwater infrastructure can be protected.
With growing global tensions, Douglas is encouraging local people to make their feelings known to the inquiry to ensure that measures are taken to further boost defence capabilities at Lossiemouth.
Douglas praised the personnel based in Moray and argues that their role is “more important than ever” following Russia’s increased military presence in the Arctic region.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “Military personnel based at Lossiemouth continue to play an increasingly important role in Scotland’s defence capabilities.
“This inquiry being undertaken by the Scottish Affairs Committee is extremely timely. With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and increasing military presence in the Arctic region, it is important that we examine how to boost defence capabilities within the MOD generally and at Lossiemouth.
“They already play a key role in the security of this region and protect vital underwater infrastructure. Arguably their role is more important than ever giving the rising political tensions.
“Our personnel based at Lossiemouth carry out extraordinary work every single day to keep us safe.
“I would encourage people across Moray with an interest in this area to make their views known to this inquiry.”
