Moray MP Douglas Ross has met again with residents who are concerned that their lives are being put at risk on a daily basis by “inconsiderate and reckless” motorists speeding through Roseisle, and has agreed to continue to support them in their efforts to make the area safer and see a reduction in the speed limit. Douglas met a number of residents in Roseisle Hall during his recent surgery tour.
Commenting, Douglas said: “Last year we held a very productive meeting with council officers and representatives of some of the larger companies whose vehicles travel through Roseisle regularly. This led to traffic surveys being undertaken and some police action.
“However, despite this, accidents continue to happen and residents remain concerned about the road outside their homes, and the speed of passing motorists – with cars, motorcycles and in some cases, lorries travelling far too fast which has seen more accidents in recent months.”
Residents have now formed an action group and are determined to have their voices heard.
Douglas added: “I’m keen to support the residents in Roseisle in any way I can. While speed survey equipment and traffic cameras slowed traffic for a while, there was no long-term effect and there have been serious accidents in the last few months where cars have left the road, and in one case even ended up in a garden.
“Residents feel that there is confusion due to the different speed limits in and around the village which doesn’t deter motorists from driving faster than they should, and with new housing developments meaning Roseisle is becoming a more built-up area, they want to see a 30mph limit introduced.
“This has been a long running issue and I can understand why local people are so concerned about this. That is why I am seeking to convene another meeting with local people and the relevant stakeholders to see if we can progress this issue.”
