Moray MP Douglas Ross says he is “extremely pleased” that Forres Mechanics have secured a significant funding boost as part of UK Government funding into grassroots sports.
In conjunction with the Scottish Football Association, the UK Government have awarded 23 sites across Scotland a share of £2 million.
Forres Mechanics plans to upgrade their floodlights were part of the successful grant applications, with the club receiving £53,950 from the UK Government.
Douglas says this is a “major boost” for the clubs plans, with the overall project set to cost £83,000.
He says this reaffirms the UK Government’s commitment to supporting grassroots sport in Moray and that he will continue to work with them to hopefully deliver further funding in the future.
Douglas – who has refereed at Mosset Park before – also praised the “passion and dedication” of everyone involved at Forres Mechanics.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “I am extremely pleased that Forres Mechanics have received this funding from the UK Government.
“This is a major boost for the clubs plan to upgrade their floodlights at Mosset Park.
“It shows the UK Government are firmly committed to investing in grassroots sport across Moray, and we must continue to encourage participation into sport in communities across our area.
“Forres Mechanics are at the heart of their community and I know how passionate and dedicated those involved in the running of the club are.
“I know that passion all too well from my days refereeing at Mosset Park, indeed my first ever appointment in the Highland League was at Forres Mechanics, and I will continue to work closely with the UK Government to hopefully deliver more funding in the future.”
