Moray MP Douglas Ross has congratulated Paul Gordon from Rothes, head coach at Elgin Amateur Boxing Club, on winning the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero Award for Scotland. He’ll now go forward to the glittering BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards and join Unsung Hero award winners from Wales and Northern Ireland and 12 English regions for a shot at securing the overall UK title.
The winner, who will be chosen by a panel of current and former sports stars and people active in sports volunteering, will be announced live at the 68th BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards at Media City Salford on 19 December on BBC One.
Commenting Douglas said: “I am delighted that Paul has been recognised for the many years of dedication he has put in. He will now go forward to the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards where he is in the running for the overall UK title. I’m sure everyone here in Moray wishes Paul the very best of luck at the awards on December 19 in Salford.
“It’s clear that his commitment and dedication has helped many amateur boxers at the club, and they appreciate all the coaching, advice and support that Paul provides.”
