Moray MP Douglas Ross says he is “absolutely delighted” that two well-known local figures have been rewarded in the New Year’s Honours List.
William Robertson has been knighted for his services to the construction industry and to charity in Scotland. The executive chairman of the Elgin-based Robertson group was already a CBE and now becomes a Sir.
Lucy Lintott- now Lucy Smith- has received a British Empire Medal (BEM) for her tireless fundraising work to help fight motor neurone disease. Lucy is thought to be the only person in the world to have given birth to two children after being diagnosed with the disease, which in Lucy's case happened when she was just 19.
Douglas says both honours are “richly deserved” and will be “warmly welcomed” by people across Moray.
He added that he looks forward to seeing Bill and Lucy receiving their honours from a member of the Royal Family in the new year.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “While famous figures often grab the headlines when it comes to the New Year’s Honours List, it also always gives time to rightly recognise local people who have been rewarded with honours.
“This year’s awards are no different with two very well-known Moray figures rightly rewarded for their endeavours in their respective fields. I am absolutely delighted that Bill Robertson will now become a Sir and Lucy Lintott has been rewarded with a British Empire Medal. Both honours are richly deserved.
“Bill has been part of his family business for decades and overseen a huge expansion of Robertson Construction, to the point where it is a vitally important local and national employer and one that has bases across Scotland and south of the border too.
“His work ethic is second to none and I know how much he has also done for charity in tandem with his business work and it is fantastic that he will now be Sir William Robertson.
“I am also extremely pleased that Lucy Lintott will be receiving a British Empire Medal. Her story is utterly remarkable and she continues to tirelessly fundraise to support the fight against motor neurone disease, while battling the disease herself.
“It is truly extraordinary the lengths she goes to fundraise and highlight MND and I am so pleased that her magnificent efforts have been recognised in the New Year’s Honours list.
“I know that people across Moray will share in my delight at Bill and Lucy’s honours and I look forward to seeing them officially receive them in due course.”
