Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed the news that SSE are upgrading the electricity sub-station at Ashgrove in Elgin.
This follows numerous power outages in the Elgin area, which Douglas reported to SSE during the summer after constituents contacted him to complain.
Commenting, Douglas said: “I’m pleased that SSE have looked at this and decided to replace the old equipment in Elgin with a modern upgrade.
“SSE have told me that although mitigation measures were put in place in July, following numerous ‘trips’ on the network. While normal service has resumed, they continue to monitor the network should any further faults occur.
“Meantime teams are on site working to replace equipment installed in the 1960s with modern infrastructure which will ensure smooth service for the 4,700 residents and local businesses served by the network, which should be completed by the end of the month.
“I very much welcome this significant investment which should serve to reassure people that their electricity is through a modern fit for purpose system, which should prevent further outages from occurring.”
