Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed a funding boost for the Ladybird Developmental Group in Lossiemouth which has secured a Big Lottery grant of £62,020.
Commenting Douglas said: “I know that the group had been previously faced a funding shortfall in its running costs, so I am sure this money will be very welcome for this particular project and put to good use.
“The Ladybird Nursery is an excellent facility which is valued by the local community and especially parents of children with additional support needs.
“This funding will help deliver a programme of therapy and education for children who require extra support and special help, and who may have a range of developmental barriers to learning. It is so encouraging to see the application being successful for these services.
“I am very pleased that the Big Lottery fund has recognised Ladybird in its Community Assets programme. The group provides a safe, educational and fun environment for children in Moray and it’s great to see funding allocated in this way.”
In their funding brief the Big Lottery fund explains that the programme is focused on children under the age of three and will include one-to-one support, access to a sensory room, and visits to hydrotherapy and soft play. Training will also be provided to parents and extended families to help them to support their child’s social development.
Maureen McGinn, Chair of the Big Lottery Fund Scotland said: “Congratulations to the 21 groups across Scotland, which are today benefitting from the generosity of National Lottery players. Amongst these are three new community hubs which will help local people to address specific inequalities or disadvantages by owning and running their own assets. Bringing people together around a space or place is an important driver in regenerating and revitalising communities, building on the strengths and skills of people in those communities facing disadvantage and leaving a lasting legacy.”
