Moray MP Douglas Ross visited the Falconer Museum in Forres recently where he saw the work being done by the Friends of the Falconer and learnt about the stories behind some of the exhibits
Douglas said: “It was a very interesting visit to the Falconer Museum and although growing up in Forres means that it’s not the first time I’ve been to the museum, there is always something different to see and I very much enjoyed my time looking at the exhibits and displays.”
He was given a tour by vice-chair of the Friends Dr John Barrett and Friend’s secretary Christine Clerk.
He added “I would like to thank John and Christine for showing me round and it was also a great opportunity to view their latest exhibit: the Tortiphant, which I understand has been a big hit with visitors. It is a great piece and really grabs your attention as soon as you enter the museum. As well as being a valuable educational resource in Moray, the history of the Falconer Museum is extremely interesting in itself with exhibits from Hugh Falconer, who was a contemporary of Darwin and whose family founded the museum.
“There is something for everyone to see at the museum and it is also used as a space for events in the town with local children getting to use the unique building during the holidays for a variety of fun sessions which are run by volunteers. I would really urge tourists and local people to go along for a visit. It’s a great way to learn about our history and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.”
Christine Clerk added: “The Friends of the Falconer Museum are delighted that their Tortiphant who is new in town, is making new friends and friends in high places too!'
