After being contacted by local residents from Dallas and Knockando about the lack of gritting on the Dallas – Knockando road, Moray MP, Douglas Ross, wrote to Moray Council highlighting these concerns and asking for the route to be reinstated as a Priority one gritting route.
Commenting Douglas said “In recent week I’ve been contacted by several local residents who have become increasingly concerned about the lack of gritting on the Dallas to Knockando road, which has seen a number of accidents and near misses recently. I wrote to Moray Council seeking reassurance that this route was being gritted appropriately and asking them to reinstate the priority one status the road previously had.
“Previously this route was classed as a priority one road, but due to Council cuts backs it has been down-graded to a priority two route. This means the gritters come later in the day to apply the treatment to the road and I asked that this decision be reviewed, bearing in mind the volume of traffic using the road, which includes school transport. Sadly the council have refused this request.
“It’s a real concern that efficiency savings are being made in such areas where the safety of drivers and road users are being put at risk and I feel this is an issue that really needs to be reviewed by the full Council.
“I’m now arranging a meeting with local people who have signed a petition on this issue to discuss what we can do next to further their campaign. I can’t just sit back and accept this reply from the council when serious safety concerns have been raised about this road.”
