Moray MP Douglas Ross has written to developer Springfield Properties after complaints of raw sewage spilling onto the driveways and into homes in the outskirts of Elgin.
Photographs provided by constituents show evidence of flooding near a building site for the new Elgin Business Centre at Barmuckity.
The local resident that brought the issue to the attention of Mr Ross has said the problem has been going on for “months”.
Scottish Water has said it does not have responsibility for the site and said that Springfield has been asked to rectify an issue relating to the opening of the travel lodge. Moray Council is also aware of the situation and officials have said they have already raised it with the developer.
Mr Ross has now contacted Springfield seeking clarity on what has happened, with one resident asking for compensation for damage to carpets in their home.
Scottish Conservative MP for Moray Douglas Ross said:
“I was contacted by a local resident who is was rightly extremely aggrieved at what has happened.
“Raw sewage has spilled out onto the streets near their home and into their property near Barmuckity.
“This is a horrendous situation at any time of year, but particularly in the run-up to Christmas.
“I have urged the developer to look into it and offer what assistance they can.
“I have also contacted Scottish Water and Moray Council, who are also in discussion with Springfield about this.
“This constituent is having to clean-up sewage on the access roads into their property through no fault of their own. This situation has to be resolved as quickly as possible.”
